God of War Prop Exercise PT 1

My environment I started with my mentorship is making me bored.  The simplicity and detailing of the scene doesn't feel good to me, and I want to move onto something invigorating.  I started a pillar based off of God of War concept art, and I put together a small moodboard for now.  I love making props like this.  I enjoy this workflow a lot, and it lets me really have fun in ZBrush.  I do have the base mesh all sub'd in ZBrush...but I'll share that update another day.  Back to the grind!

time. to. AHBOOD UP. this blog.

Hello!

It's been a year, but I'm going to make the effort to post my WIP in here once more.  I've moved to California to start my job as a Prop Artist at 2K/Visual Concept! I've gone through a lot from working in Government. It mentally got me off balance, but I want to improve that out here.  More resources to unpackage my mind, talk to folks, rebuild.  Plus, happier work environment!

I've been doing materials for over a month at work.  It's interesting doing landscape materials, because tiling issues are extremely important.  Materials have to be generic yet provide quick details as you traverse the landscape.  What remedies this is having a strong Albedo.  Give that tons of love, build the proper UE4 shader, and you can have a readable mat.

The team is small, but lots of good folks and people I can turn to.  I can also be of usefulness to others too.  I solved a Landscape layering issue by changing the Textures to Wrap, and it allowed us to keep moving forward on the big material.  Thanks to Kurt Kusper for teaching me that in CGMA!

With the time I've had outside of work, I've just been practicing different modeling and material work. That said, I want to do more drawing again.  Line art, fantasy, D&D illustrations.  I've fallen out of the craft that gave me the passion and drive to get me into 3D modeling and games.  Below I've done some practice on a Tetsuya Nomura eye drawings.  The other was a just free hand to start again.  It'll take some time, but I can do it.  I'll get to a stage where I can start drawing characters and landscapes again.
